It has become an annual tradition for me to discuss race relations on MLK Day. This year I need to discuss Obama. For many black Americans, there is a certain bit of pride in having a black president. The problem is that Obama absolutely sucks as a president. It is a shame that it is like this, but there it is. From his failure to close Guantanamo Bay to the mockery of giving him a Peace Prize to agreeing to corporate bailouts to presiding over the worst economy since the Great Depression, Obama gets a total F except in killing Osama bin Laden. Barack gets an A on that one.
When I share these criticisms, I can see black fans of Obama wince. I don't know what to do about this because I can't give the guy a pass merely because he's black. FWIW, Obama gets the same bile from me that Bush got. Romney will also get it when he wins it all. But many black people simply can't make the distinction. It is not enough to be black. You also need to be good. Obama is not good. The fucker is evil.
Obama signed into law the NDAA bill. That alone puts him in the pantheon of evil stupid fuckers. That bill is up there with Dred Scott. When I point this out to my black friends, they are simply and utterly clueless as to what I am talking about. This new law will almost certainly smite blacks at some point in the future. Perhaps then, they will care. But for right now, they are still basking in the glow of having a black president. Obama could be spearing babies with a pitchfork, and they wouldn't give a shit.
The sad reality of blacks in America is they vote as an almost virtual monolithic bloc. Even MLK did not enjoy the virtual unanimity that Obama has among blacks today. Even when Obama is swept from office in disgrace, he is certain to be revered and honored by these people long after the rest of the country has opted to forget the mistake it made in electing the lying fucker.
The question I ask myself is this. If MLK were alive today, what would he make of Barack Obama? The answer to that is simple. King would be Obama's harshest critic much as Cornel West and Tavis Smiley are also harsh critics of the president. For King, the wars would put him at odds with Obama since King was an outspoken opponent of the war in Vietnam. Cornel West sums it up in this video:
I am a libertarian, so I don't subscribe to the left wing social justice crap. But when it comes to wars and human rights, I like what West is laying down. I have to give credit to that man for being principled and sincere and also having the courage to take an unpopular stance against the President.
Let's face facts. Beyond being elected, what has Obama done for black Americans? How has he improved their lot? What has he done to promote peace and human rights? The answer is nothing. Obama has worked to diminish peace and human rights and deserves to be included with Bush and Cheney as one of the Bastards of the Early 21st Century.
The black community in America needs one thing above all others. It needs a diversity of viewpoints, leaders, and opinions. No other ethnic group is as homogenized as the African-American community. The fact that this community gives carte blanche to Obama to do as he pleases shows that they are more about symbolism than actual progress. In short, blacks need to vote for a guy for something other than the fact that he is black. Perhaps when there are two black guys running for that high office that this will happen.
For the rest of the country, the novelty has worn off. They know and realize Obama was a mistake. I think many Democrats wish Hillary had won. The problem is that they will simply elect a really bad Republican to make up for that really bad Democrat. Obama had a chance to make a real difference in the area of peace. He blew it. The only thing I can tell my black friends is that Obama is just like all those other white dudes that held the office--a disgrace.
