Gareth Rees and Mark Wallace Sign New Long-Term Contracts

Two of Glamorgan’s outstanding performers in 2011 have signed new, long-term contracts which will keep them at the SWALEC Stadium until 2014.

Opening batsman Gareth Rees and wicketkeeper-batsman Mark Wallace had one year left on their existing contracts, and have now committed their futures to Glamorgan for the next three years.

Both players are enjoying excellent seasons. Rees has scored two centuries and, with 450 runs, is currently the third-highest scorer in this year’s CB40 competition, as well as scoring 749 runs in the LV= County Championship. Wallace, meanwhile, is close to reaching a new personal best for runs in a Championship season and surpassing his previous record of 856, set in 2003.

Rees said: “This was an easy decision to make and I am delighted to be staying at Glamorgan for another three years. I have been pleased with my form this season and want to help the Club challenge for honours in the very near future.”

“Having been Glamorgan’s youngest-ever wicketkeeper, I am now one of the team’s senior players and am very happy to extend my stay with the Club into a 16thseason,” said Wallace. “I still have lots to achieve and want to help Glamorgan realise their own ambitions at the same time.”

Managing Director of Cricket, Colin Metson, said: “Gareth and Mark are key players for Glamorgan and we are pleased and excited that they have signed new contracts. We want to see Welsh cricketers playing for Glamorgan, and both Gareth and Mark are the very best. We believe that with these senior players at the heart of our team, Glamorgan fans can look forward to a successful future.”
