South Wales Scorpions’ skipper Aled James says that the squad are looking forward to returning to The Gnoll this Sunday after over two months away when they take on Doncaster (kick-off 3pm).
The match is the first of three in a row in Neath and they are all free entry for children under 16 when accompanied by a paying adult as part of the RFL’s Kids Go Free policy during the school holidays.
The club are also reporting good sales for their “Triple Ticket Treat” promotion allowing fans to buy a ticket for all three games for only £20 (£10 concessions) which works out at under £7 per game for adults.
“It’s really good to be back at The Gnoll after so long away,” James said. “We’ve had some difficult times in the last few months and hopefully getting back to our spiritual home will give us the boost that we need.
“The boys are really excited about getting back to Neath. It’s one of the best places in the country to play Rugby League. Apparently the pitch is like a carpet now and it’ll encourage us to play the ball a lot better.
“We’ve had a lot of missed opportunities this year and hopefully going back to the Gnoll will give us that spark that we need to get out there and get another win on the table.”
Doncaster are in third place in Co-operative Championship 1 and are in top form having won six out of their last seven matches, only losing to league leaders Swinton Lions last week and James knows that they are going to have to do well to beat them.
“Doncaster are a form side this year, a total transition from the team that they were last year,” he said. “They’ve improved a lot and built on their confidence.
“We had a week off playing last week but we carried on with our normal training routine. No-one had a break. We’ve trained really hard over the last couple of weeks. We’ve focussed on competing for the whole 80 minutes and being the side no-one wants to play against. In patches we’ve shown that but we need to keep it up.”
Doncaster hope to include on-loan centre Nev Morrison following his hat-trick of tries against Swinton last week, while Grant Edwards is set to return from a deadleg and Craig Lawton, who has had a ribs injury, could also feature.
