[SOC]

I have so many things going through my head at the moment that it is hard to pick on any one thing to write about. I just got back from eatin seafood with my girlfriend at Captain D's. I eat a lot of fish these days. I like salmon, sushi, tilapia, mussels, shrimp, and crab. None of it is fried. When it comes to protein, the ocean is tough to beat.

I also eat a lot poultry. Chicken and turkey are good. I don't eat this fried either except I will eat fried turkey on Thanksgiving. Fried turkey is damn tasty. I highly recommend it.

I do not eat four legged animals, mammals, etc. This isn't an animal rights thing so much as the fact that fish and poultry are lean meat. Pork and beef tend to be fatty. You can get lean ham and roast beef, but I just stick with the poultry and fish.

I also like fruits and vegetables. I eat lots of vegetables with dinner, and fruit is always for dessert. I also like getting veggie pizza or just green peppers and black olives on the pizza. Mushrooms are good, too.

I don't like candy or sweets. I do eat carbs, but this is usually breakfast cereal and whole wheat bread. I like rice and pasta. I don't drink sugary sodas or tea, but I do drink the hell out of Diet Coke, Diet Dr. Pepper, Diet Mountain Dew, and assorted knock off drinks from Walmart. I sweeten with either local honey or Splenda.

Some changes I have made recently include drinking hot tea usually with honey in the afternoons. I gave up iced tea a long time ago which is unusual for a Southern man like myself. People put too much sugar in it. I might try it unsweetened and see if I get used to it. If I do, I might kick my soda habit. Something to think about.

The best diet advice I ever got was from triathlete Mark Allen who counseled people to go to the grocery store every day. He pointed out that this is required to eat fresh foods and vegetables. Plus, most people eat out too damn much. Going to the grocery store takes about as much time as waiting in line at McDonald's. This habit of daily grocery shopping breaks the habit of eating from fast food places, convenience stores, and vending machines.
