South Wales Scorpions will play two matches against former Super League sides at Virginia Park in Caerphilly due to reseeding work at their regular home ground, The Gnoll in Neath.
The matches against Oldham on Sunday 15th May (kick-off 3pm) and Workington Town on Sunday 5th June (kick-off 1pm) will both be played at the historic ground.
Virginia Park is the new home of the Wales Rugby League and already stages their Grand Finals and age-grade international matches. The Crusaders Academy have also adopted Caerphilly as their home ground for all of their sides in 2011.
Scorpions’ chairman Phil Davies said: “We are delighted that Caerphilly RFC have stepped in to host our games while The Gnoll is being reseeded. With football, rugby union and rugby league played at The Gnoll, it takes its toll and this is needed every year.
“Last year we were able to work our fixtures around the reseeding. This year we’ve not been as fortunate but the move will allow the rugby loving Caerphilly public to see professional Rugby League first hand.
“Virginia Park is an excellent ground and it’s no stranger to big games having played host to European rugby union matches in recent years. We’re looking forward to hosting both Oldham and Workington there in the next couple of months.”
All season tickets bought for The Gnoll will of course be valid for both games at Virginia Park in Caerphilly. If anyone has further enquiries about the game, they should go towww.scorpionsrl.com or email info@scorpionsrl.com.
