NFL's New Rule

At the winter meetings the NFL implemented a rule I don't care much for. The OT rule change.

I really enjoyed the sudden death. The fight to the finish. To see if your defense is good enough to stop the opponent and give your offense a chance to win it. Yes, I understand that if your team gets a TD on the first drive it ends it, but a field goal no longer does and to me that kind of takes away from the game. That would be like if the NBA had a game come down to the final seconds and a team made a 2pt shot. And they said, "well, it wasn't a three pointer so the other team will have a shot now to win it." I am just not one for that kind of change.

And as we saw in this years NFC Championship, we could have kept the rules the same. Both teams fought it out before the Giants won it in OT. And the most thrilling part of the victory for me was seeing if the kicker could make it under tons of pressure. And the pressure I believe would feel lifted more now. Knowing if you make it, your teams defense is what the game really relies on so for you if you miss it, ah, you might get to do it again. Of course, once again, this is only in theory if your team has the ball first.

I just had to get my opinion out there. The rules they are changing are not the ones I would have. The game was good in the format it was in. The changes such as tapping the qb's shoulder and calling that rougher the passer should have been the ones that got fixed.

Maybe I am looking at this wrong, maybe this will not be a bad thing. How will I feel if the Giants win an OT game because of the new rule? Guess I will have to wait to see if it changes how I feel. I am just a stickler on keeping things the way they are. Sudden death with a field goal or a TD should have been the way it stayed.

Please comment if you feel different or the same I do. And what rule would you have changed?
