Every year, when there is a big story on the sporting scene in New Zealand, (Beckham's visit) some New Zealand rugby writer comes out with a story on how we dont appreciate Lomu.
For 14 years we have been told how great he is, how humble he is, how he has never got the credit he deserves.
It's like rugby journos in NewZealand have a chip on their shoulders, if another sport or sporting star is in the spot light.
Yes we get it Duncan, Lomu is a legend of his sport, he is worshipped by rugby union people overseas, although he is not as popular as yourself, Joeseph Romanos, Brendon Telfer make him out to be, and when us kiwis travel overseas, people actually dont come up to us and say "I know nothing about your country, but I know who Lomu is"
If he was as popular as you make him out to be, then Addias would pay him as such, yet he no where nears commands the salary of Footballers, Basketballers, Ice Hockey and track and field stars.
I say good on Lomu for staying humble, and coming back from a serious illness, he seems a genuine great guy. My wish is for Lomu to be used for promotion for the RWC.
My other wish is for the NZ media to stop shoving him down our throats and telling us we don't love him enough, it gets old after 14 years.
