First, I must say, I am extremely happy that Upper Deck brought back Fleer products in their Fleer Retro Basketball 2011/2012. Even though it was missing a few of my faves....like Fleer Platinum
And Fleer Tradition (the usual base set)
EX2000 was a terrific brand with card board border and acetate background and tremendous rainbow shine
Upper Deck Fleer Retro still has greats such as Fleer Metal, Fleer Showcase, Fleer Ultra such insert sets as Autograpics, Precious Metal Gems, Jambalaya to name a few.
The basketball product packs a punch with 6 autographs and a ton of rare cards such as the Precious Metal Gems...but the question I must pose now that they have announced a football version being released in February is...what about the rest of us?
Here is a quick preview of what the football cards look like:
You probably by now am wondering what kind of question is this...but I didn't finish my sentence completely. It is..what about the rest of us who CAN'T AFFORD this product? Why do we have to suffer and miss out on the Fleer products. These boxes can range anywhere between $300-$600!! There is no way I can touch such a product despite its beauty and I am sure most of you can't either.
So that's why I want to ask Upper Deck what about the rest of us? Those of us who have been wanting and reminiscing of a Fleer product on the market. I personally would like to see Upper Deck do more with their Fleer ownership. Why not break down these products for the rest of us?
Make a Fleer Metal, a Fleer Platinum, A Fleer Ultra, A Fleer Tradition, and more and maybe even a Skybox product or two (owned by Fleer and made great products in the late 90's such as Skybox Premium {who can forget Skybox rubies) and Skybox Impact). I would love to see these products back on the market both in retail and in hobby. But put hobby boxes with just a couple of hits and a $80-$100 price range. But also make sure you keep true to the Fleer roots in both design and inserts. And retail for our younger generation and those who can't afford hobby boxes. This idea may also help put Upper Deck back up in collectors eyes. And it might help the hobby grow as well. Do both a basketball and a football version. Just a thought.
I hope Upper Deck reads this and I would love nothing more than to hear your guys thoughts on this topic! Comment below and let me know what you think!
