Here is my rundown of my top 5 under the radar NFL rookies to watch. These are rookies that are not spoken about too often that should have a big impact on the field in 2012.
1. I chose Wilson as my number one pick because I was shocked the Giants drafted a RB in the first round since they have three on their roster already. The Giants have drafted excellent since 2007 when Jerry Reese took over as GM and this draft shouldn't be any different. The Giants must have seen something in Wilson others didn't. The Giants had more important holes to fill, so by drafting Wilson, this tells me this guy is going to be special.
2. Quick brings something to the Rams that they have needed since drafting Sam Bradford...a WR. Now that Bradford has a reliable weapon to go along with the other young receivers Quick should help Bradford in the offense and take some of the pressure away from defenses focusing on Steven Jackson.
3 Alshon Jeffery brings the Bears another deep threat to go alongside newly acquired Brandon Marshall. And with the injury to their other star WR Johnny Knox this means Jeffery could find himself in a starting role. With most defenses focusing to Marshall's side, I expect Jeffery to step up and make some plays.
4. Upshaw went from backup to starter overnight. With the injury to Terrell Suggs, I don't expect him back despite him trying to be ready for the season, Courtney Upshaw will step in as a pass rushing OLB. I expect him to have at least 6 sacks with all of the talent their defense has and with a leader like Ray Lewis to guide him along he should have a breakout season.
5. Jets fans were shocked to see their team draft Coples. But he provides the pass rush the Rex Ryan's defense has really needed. Expect him to step and and show the Jets fans why he was their first round pick.
You may or may not agree with me or maybe there is someone who should be on here that isn't. You can let me know your thoughts in comments below.
