Ichiro is a Yankee

Item image

I am sure that I am like many bloggers, collectors and those who follow sports who after finding out that the New York Yankees made a deal with the Seattle Mariners (Seattle will receive pitchers D.J. Mitchell and Danny Farquar) for Ichiro immediately wanted to give their opinion. Yes. I wanted to post it yesterday. But instead I went and dug for this rookie card. The only Ichiro rookie I have.

I had tossed it aside. For years I had kept it in a thick plastic but when the value dropped a couple of years ago I put it in a binder with the rest of the low end rookies despite him being an obvious Hall Of Famer. But now it sits out. Ichiro is a Yankee. Not only is he on my favorite team, he is now in a big market where he can also possibly take home a ring and drive the value up on his cards.

The Yanks stuck him in immediately last night and he hit eighth for the Yankees, wearing No. 31, hitting a single to  in his first at-bat before stealing a base as well. I don't think the Yankees gave up very much for him and received a player with a lot left. This could be Ichiro's last run for a ring. I think he will improve upon his career low this season of .261 avg and help the Yankees in many ways. I look forward to seeing him play in pinstripes for the rest of the season.
