It is difficult to write these things because purely random thoughts are becoming hard to come by. This is because I spend most of my time thinking about the things I have planned to write on concrete subjects. I find it hard to let the wheel go and let my mind flow to whatever comes in there.
I am hungry on a Sunday morning. This shit won't be published until Monday morning. I haven't eaten breakfast. I want some coffee. And I was thinking about rock bands. This is probably because The White Stripes are calling it quits. Jack has plenty of other creative outlets while I suspect Meg wants to go home and drink all day. Jack should just consider doing a solo gig.
It would be really cool if he did a collabo with Slash. That would be a juggernaut act there. I don't know if those two styles of guitar playing could mesh. But it would be really interesting to see.
I feel a certain kinship with Jack because he strikes me as an endlessly creative type. I am the same way. I get restless and have to write. The difference between Jack and myself is that I don't do well as a collaborator. I wish I could do that, but I find that I end up doing all the work. I call this Simon and Garfunkel Syndrome.
I am willing to put myself in a support role for someone else. I am willing to share credit. I'm not into the ego thing. I think Jack White is the same way. He strikes me as a humble sort of guy. He sees in others things to like and appreciate. I do the same thing.
I believe that new ideas come from the combination of previous ideas. You take all your influences and put something new into them. This is why collaboration can be so effective because you are pooling two or more sets of influences. Of course, leadership can become an issue. One person may want to go in one direction while someone else wants to go in another direction. This is how you get bands that have famous clashes.
I think it helps to have individual projects and to have collaborations. This way you have an outlet for your personal wishes but can also make some contribution to something else. One of the things I have been wanting to do is make guest posts on other blogs. I need to expand my circle of creativity.
It is time for breakfast and coffee.
