People can say a lot of bad things about Steve Jobs. He can be an asshole and a prick. He has the ability to brainwash people into believing in him. He is difficult to work with. He is a maverick. The bottom line on Steve Jobs is that he has not just revolutionized Apple but the entire tech world.
The problem with tech is obvious. It is full of geeky fucking nerds. They have no sense of style or taste. If they did, they would get laid more. They are all firmly left brain people. Jobs did the amazing by bringing a right brain sensibility to that world. He spurred these geeks to make beautiful and elegant products while everyone else copied what he did.
It hasn't always been easy for Jobs. He was a college drop out. His first computer with Steve Wozniak was built in a garage. He founded a great company. That great company fired him. He would go on to create Pixar and NeXT. Apple would beg him to come back. And he did. He changed the world again. Then, he got cancer. Then, he got a liver transplant. As I write this, speculation swirls that Jobs may be ill again. The entire tech world is in deep fear of this inevitability. They know how valuable this man is.
Jobs didn't do it all alone. He has great people around him. But Steve has the vision. He has the drive. He points the way, and everyone else follows. Even his competitors know in their guts that he makes them do better stuff. Losing Steve Jobs is like having your heart ripped out of your chest. But it has to happen sooner or later.
Others will have to step up and assume the mantle. But who? The fact is that Steve Jobs was and is a true original. It is doubted that there will be another one like him. Only time can tell. But there will be high praise for Steve when he goes. He is the CEO and businessman that all others should aspire to be like. He wasn't content to make money. He wanted to change the world, and he did.
