David Broder on Raising Taxes

http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2010/04/09/AR2010040903717_pf.html

The next day, at a breakfast with reporters in Washington, Douglas Elmendorf, the head of the Congressional Budget Office, confirmed that his economists have begun studying how to write a value-added tax, a form of national sales tax, because of growing congressional interest in drafting such a measure.

This is how DC addresses its fiscal problems. First, it spends like crazy. Then, it spends more. Finally, it spends even more. Talks of cutting this spending is treated as anathema. The solution is to ratchet up taxes. This is always the DC solution.

The VAT is coming. This is the stealth tax. You will be paying it without even knowing it which is why politicians in Washington salivate at implementing it. As for Republicans, they will wail and howl, but they secretly want it, too. Once it is passed, no Republican outside of the Ron Paul crowd will try and repeal it.

The result of all this spending and the increase in taxes will be the diminishing of your standard of living. We will become like Europe. Government is a metastasizing cancer that does not stop until death or revolution. It has always been this way and will always be this way. And who do we blame? I blame you, the American citizen, who votes for these clowns and takes all the goodies Uncle Sugar gives you, and seeks to freeload off the productive remainder of society. You are parasites, but the joke is on you. Without a host, the parasite withers and dies, and Washington is fixing to kill off the host.
